For Canadians that are wanting to travel to different countries but have a criminal record that has not been pardoned crossing the border can be difficult. You can contact pardon services and once you are pardoned you can have your criminal record sealed from employers or federal authorities for 3, 5 or 10 years depending on your crime. This means if you are searching for employment or want to work as a volunteer your criminal record will not be accessible. If you are wanting to cross into the US you may still need a waiver because Canadian pardons are not recognized by the US authorities.
